Welcome, and thank you for stopping by.
I’m Morwenna (though most people call me Mo), the artist behind Verbena Wave. I live in Bristol with my husband, our two children, and our much-loved ginger cat, Clemie.
Everything you’ll find here begins with a simple black pen sketch, inspired by the quiet beauty of nature and the ordinary moments that so often pass us by. From greeting cards and art prints to journals, colouring pages and fabrics, I create gentle, hand-drawn designs that I hope bring a little more calm, comfort and connection into everyday life.
More than anything, I hope my work reminds people that beauty, joy and hope are often found in the everyday moments we might otherwise walk past.
Why I Created Verbena Wave
Life can be busy, noisy and full of things competing for our attention.
Verbena Wave grew from a desire to create something quieter.
I wanted to make art and thoughtful resources that gently invite people to pause, notice and reconnect—with themselves, with the people they love and with the natural world around them.
Whether it’s writing in a gratitude journal, colouring a page, sending a meaningful card or simply noticing the sunlight through the trees on a morning walk, I believe these small moments matter.
They’re often the moments that help us breathe a little more deeply, feel more grounded and remember what is important.
The Heart Behind My Work
Before becoming a full-time artist, I spent many years working as a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS.
At its heart, that work was about helping children communicate, express themselves and feel heard and understood.
Although my work looks very different today, the values behind it haven’t changed.
I’ve always believed that connection matters.
Connection with ourselves.
Connection with the people we love.
Connection with the natural world.
Connection through creativity.
Whether through words, creativity or nature, I’ve always believed that feeling heard, understood and connected can quietly change our lives.
In my own way, that’s what Verbena Wave is about.
Why “Verbena Wave”?
The name Verbena Wave reflects both who I am and what I create.
“Morwenna” means crest of a wave, and I’ve always felt drawn to the gentle rhythms of the natural world.
The Verbena flowering plant represents resilience, quiet beauty and the importance of small things. It’s also loved by bees and butterflies—tiny pollinators whose work often goes unnoticed, yet plays such a vital role in helping the natural world flourish.
Together, these ideas capture the heart of Verbena Wave: gentle creativity inspired by nature, carrying a sense of calm, hope and quiet joy.
From Sketchbook to Finished Design
Every design begins as a hand-drawn sketch using a simple black pen.
I love the freedom of loose lines, tiny imperfections and whimsical details. Once my drawings are complete, I scan them and add colour digitally, carefully building patterns and illustrations that retain the warmth and character of the original artwork.
Knowing that each piece begins by hand is important to me, and I hope that sense of care is something you can feel in the finished work.
A Few Things That Inspire Me
When I’m not drawing, you’ll usually find me reading, wandering through woodland, tending the garden or enjoying a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
I’m endlessly inspired by changing seasons, wildflowers, birdsong, well-loved books, cosy corners and the quiet beauty of ordinary days.
These are the moments that fill my sketchbooks—and my heart.
